companies that SUCK

SLM Financial sucks.  Here's my story:  I signed up with an 'at-home' learning center (KB Institute of Technology) a couple years ago for IT training (to become Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, more commonly knows as MCSE, certified).  Before I even took my first online class, the school was closed.  All web addresses, emails, phone numbers and everything else having to do with KB Institute of Technology were GONE.   I put in a complaint with the Columbus Better Business Bureau.  If you'd like to see the confirmation email I received from the Better Business Bureau, click HERE.  Then I sent a compliant to the Federal Trade Commission.  View their response email HERE

I financed the training (to the tune of almost $9000) through SLM financial.  I got absolutely NOTHING and yet SLM financial expects me to HAPPILY pay back every penny.  WTF?  In fact, just the other day they hung up on me (K. Wallace was her name to be exact).  They don't want to help me out.  They don't want to talk about options.  The only thing they want to talk about is when they're getting their payment.  Umm, excuse me.. I don't think so.  They've been harassing me, my friends and even my parents.

In an attempt to get out of this crappy situation, I've enlisted the assistance of Ohio Governor Bob Taft, Ohio Senator Mike DeWine, Ohio Senator David Goodman, Ohio Senator George V. Voinovich, Columbus City Attorney Richard C. Pfieffer, Ohio state Attorney General Jim Petro, (who kindly reviewed my complaint against SLM and KB Institute of Technology and forwarded my complaint to the Federal Department of Education (which I'll refer to as FDE) in Washington DC).  According to FDE's website, I qualify for a 100% discharge of my student loan.  The following conditions, according to FDE, make my case eligible for 100% discharge:  "Closed school (before student could complete program of study) or false loan certification".  SLM financial obviously doesn't know about this.  Strange as seeing how this has been in effect since January 1, 1986.

If I were you, I would steer clear of SLM financial for your student loan needs.  They act like loan sharks instead of a reputable finance company.  Want to see more SLM ripoffs?  Check out Ripoff Report.com.  Stay away from SLM.  They don't care about you at all.  I've recently contacted my local news agency and asked them if they'd like to hear my story about SLM financial and school closing.  Hopefully, they'll be VERY interested.  UPDATE!  The news agency wants me to call them to discuss my story.  Will let you know more as my story unfolds.

Update!  I just got a letter in the mail from Governor Bob Taft!  He forwarded my letter to him to the Attorney General!  I have already been in contact with the Attorney General requesting that my complaint be investigated "as quickly and thoroughly as possible"!  Perhaps now with the Governor on my side, thing will progress a little more rapidly!

*************** UPDATE 8/8/07**************

Not much has changed during the course of a year.  SLM sent me a loan forgiveness form which I quickly filled out and sent back.  Oddly, they never received it.  They sent me a replacement from to fill out and, oddly, the claim they never received that one either (I guess they should have the mailroom staff drug tested?).

So, a couple weeks ago I receive another bill from SLM.  Damage?  $11,000 or so.  SLM is calling me at work, harassing me.  Here's what the guy (Larry Click) said to me.  He said that I could get a forbearance on my SLM loan if I gave them two consecutive payments of $146.  Hmm..  No.  I don't think so.  So now I'm on a rampage again.  I contact a private attorney who gives me some advice.  I contact the new Ohio Attorney General, Mark Dann.  I also fill out an Ohio Consumer Complaint from which goes through Mark Dann's office.  I received an email today that my form, which included all of my documents for this nightmare, to tell me that it had been received and is being processed.  They indicate that they had sent a written copy of my complaint to SLM and requested that they respond to the complaint in writing.  This should be interesting.  It also said that it might take up to 90 days for a conclusion.  Fine with me.  If you'd like to see the response email I received, click HERE.  I also sent out an email to state and federal leaders detailing my situation and told them of the widespread carnage that SLM is dealing out.  I've received an email from Congressman Pat Tiberi and Senator Voinovich.  I even sent an email off to President George W. Bush.  Of course, I doubt I'll get a reply.  Who knows though, SLM *IS* taking part in Corporate Terrorism

If you're read this so far, first I would like to thank you (unless you're from SLM).  Secondly, I would like to refer you to a web site that will shock you.  It's pretty much about a particular computer 'school' that closed down such as mine, and how SLM left the students to suffer in the aftermath.  Please click HERE to read about the carnage.  It appears those students were able to get a class-action suit together and get out of the hell they were in.  Why can't I get out if they can?

IF YOU'RE AN OHIO ATTORNEY WHO HAS ENOUGH BALLS TO GO UP AGAINST SLM TO HELP ME OUT,  EMAIL ME.

*************** UPDATE 8/29/07**************

Today I received a voicemail from Alaina (sp?) from SLM.  She said that she had received my loan discharge form and that she had some questions for me.  I called back around 4:10pm today, but I had to leave a voicemail (which I did) as she wasn't available.  Maybe this is the beginning of the end of my nightmare?  At least she sounded pleasant (ok, she sounded pretty damn HOT).  Anyway, I'll keep you posted.

*** LATEST UPDATE! MUST READ THIS!! ***

I AM OFFICIALLY OUT OF MY STUDENT LOAN WITH SLM FINANCIAL.  I will soon scan the documents for all to see.  I'm not exactly sure what worked, but here's what I did:  REsent the original loan discharge papers via CERTIFIED mail.  After they received the forms, they sent me basically what amounted to a contract in order get out of the loan (which I'll scan and post here).  I ran it by the attorney I was working with and he said it was in order.  So, I sent the forms (again, via certified mail).  About two weeks later, I received yet another letter stating that I no longer have debt with SLM financial.  And a couple week safter that, I got a REFUND check for all of the payments I've made to date on the account!  WOO HOO!

Webmaster's Statement of the Year:  Wells Fargo SUCKS.  If you like getting ripped off by a financial institution then Wells Fargo is the bank for you!

That's right!  If you want to be harassed about a payment that's an hour late, then Wells Fargo is for you!  If you've landed on this site because you typed "wells fargo sucks" into your browser, you've seen many web pages that agree with me.  Check out THIS link for example.  If I were you, I'd stay clear from Wells Fargo.  Browse the other web sites and read other people's horror stories.  My story pales in comparison so I'll spare the details.  Trust me though, you'd wish you had a hot poker in the side of your head than become a Wells Fargo patron.

AmeriCredit sucks.  They don't suck as bad as SallieMae or Wells Fargo, but they still suck nonetheless.

If your unfortunate enough to do business with AmeriCredit (which most of their clients are), then you're already screwed.  Like I said, they don't suck as bad as the abovementioned 'businesses', but they put a hurtin' on ya.  I'm not going to go into detail about the anal-reaming I received, but I'll just say I won't be able to sit down for a few months.  I will give them some credit (no pun intended); they are quite nice and work with pretty much any situation that comes up.  Interest rates are fucking ridiculous (I can't believe it can even be legal).  Anyway, if you go with these guys, you're going to need some K-Y jelly and a stick to bite on.  Found some good reading about AmeriCredit right HERE.  Don't be taken by these guys or other companies like them.  They prey on folks who get screwed by credit card companies.  Suck it up, save up your CASH and buy what you need that way if you possibly can.

Coleman sucks.  I bought a cool telescoping Coleman camping lighter for my father in law a couple months ago for Christmas.  The thing only worked three times.  I contacted Coleman and they send me the address of the manufacturer.  Note to Coleman:  If you're going to put your name on something, you'd better be willing to stand by the product.  I'll NEVER buy a Coleman product again, EVER.  And all it would have taken for me to remain a faithful Coleman customer?  Just send me a $10 replacement.  I guess Coleman isn't interested in customer loyalty.
