Greetings! I have a loan through SLM for a school that closed before I even took one class. SLM doesn't seem to want to help me. In an effort to help me out with my situation, I've contacted a few of my state and city officials including Ohio Governor Bob Taft, Ohio Senator Mike DeWine, Senator David Goodman, Senator Geroge Voinovich, Ohio Attorney General Jim Petro, city attorney Richard C Pfeiffer, the Federal Department of Education, a private attorney, and WBNS 10TV consumer investigative reports division. Information has begun to slowly trickle in from these elected Officials. It's been a while since I made a payment. It's not that I don't want to make a payment. I know SLM has discharged other loans to students at other schools that have closed down. Schools like Ameritrain for example. I'm in the exact same boat and thus deserve a loan discharge. It's much like if you went to a car dealer and purchased the car of your dreams. The dealer gives you the shiny new keys and says come back tomorrow and you can drive her home. You go back the next day and all that's left is an abandoned car lot. What do you do? Where do you go? I went to the car lot... I got the keys.. but the only thing that was taken for a ride is me. I hope that with the help of the abovementioned individuals, I can have my loan discharged completely. WBNS 10TV would like me to call them back to discuss my story. I'm waiting until I have more developments. I would feel victorious just making the news-watching public aware that trying to make yourself a better person both professionally and personally through expanding your education and result in a nighmare through no fault of their own. Instead of becomming more of an asset to their community they can have their dreams of a brighter future smashed to pieces by ruined credit from a school operated by criminals who will only take their money and run. What can I do to ease this process of loan discharge? Calling me for payment and then hanging up on me when I try to explain my story is not good business when all I want is someone to listen to me and try to help me out. The only other thing that I've done so far is fill out a Loan Discharge Application that I download from the Federal Department of Education website (form number 1845-0015) and faxed it in (with attention to K. Wallace. She's the one who hung up on me) a few times to make sure the integrity of the document was not compromised by electronic transmission. Thanks for listening Sincerely, Bruce Lonsinger
